Love your suggestions. I think being clear and honest in communications and demonstrating your commitment via actions of follow through and follow ups, are building blocks of trust.
Great article. After 4 years it’s already hard for me to imagine life without that full battery, can’t even imagine the difficult switch after 7 😅
In my opinion, basic project management skills are very underrated (especially for engineering leaders). often in bigger projects you are a part of there won’t be someone really managing the deadlines, unblocking people and making sure everyone is in sync. Basic stuff like summing up meetings, following up on approaching deadlines, etc.
As people feel this kind of work is beneath them, if you take it on yourself, people will thank you, and learn to depend and trust you.
So true! I think this is a big part of why it gets harder and harder to leave an org after you've been there for awhile. You're effectively start-over and have to rebuild trust, relationships - everything!
And good call on project management, that's something that's often not taught outright but is pretty crucial to getting projects and teams to run effectively.
How do you build trust at work? Do share! 🔋
